I had to explain that roofing is a really difficult task, much harder than flipping burgers, but that it paid remarkably well for the people who could handle it
Recently I was blessed enough to supply a speech to a group of teenagers… I was told that these teenagers were considered “at-risk youth” because they had terrible grades plus behavioral problems! More to the point, these teenagers were not college material, plus thought they had no future! Schools are awful for making teenagers feel that going to college is the only way to have a bright future, I feel that is BS. I am living proof – I barely graduated from high college, plus never took one college class, plus yet I own my own business, my own house, plus make a fantastic living. As a roofing business, I will be able to send my own children to college one afternoon… if that is what they want to do, and learning a trade plus becoming skilled at roofing was more pricey to me than any college, however this is what I wanted to impart to these so-called “at risk” teens, because the guidance counselor will never tell them to try a work in roofing! Of course I encouraged them to seek out any trade, including Heating plus A/C repair, plumbing, carpentry, plus more, but since my own personal experience was in roofing that was my focus. I handed out many business cards for my roofing company, to encourage these teens to call me plus start their own works. I had to explain that roofing is a really difficult task, much harder than flipping burgers, but that it paid remarkably well for the people who could handle it. I hope I reached some of these teenagers plus made a difference.
