Want to remove our old wood stove

Our home came with a central heater and a decorative wood stove in the living room.

  • My husband and I realized the wood stove was actually functional.

The previous owner vented it to the ceiling and all the way to the roof. It must have been an expensive addition for what they got. The wood stove can only provide ample enough heating for the living room. With the central heater running, you don’t even need it either. So if we wanted to use the woodstove we would need to close the living room vents and use it. Well I found that I don’t really like wood stoves. Yes, it can provide decent amounts of heating. The work involved is really not worth it. We live in a wooded area so securing wood isn’t a problem. I hate storing wood inside my house. It just looks so gross and trashy. Sometimes the wood is wet and needs to dry for days. Sometimes it has an odd smell to it. Once we collect wood it doesn’t last too long either. Within hours our food supply will dwindle down to nothing. I have been talking to my husband about removing this heater completely. We would need to patch the ceiling and get roofers to remove the protrusion. It would be expensive and time consuming. I feel it is worth it to no longer have a wood stove. My husband doesn’t really want to do the work of removing it. So right now I am stuck with a heating system that takes up half of my living room and is worthless.
