HVAC nightmare

If you have ever lived in an old house, you might be able to relate with the story I am going to tell.

The house I grew up in was built in 1934.

The house is nearly 100 years old at this point. As a child, I remember rattling air vents and smelly air coming from the vents once the heat was turned on. No matter the season, is seemed as there was always something wrong with the HVAC system. In a perfect world, my parents would have had the entire unit replaced years ago. However, this house was passed down from a late aunt who passed away unexpectedly. The house held many memories and some even said that it was haunted. I only ever heard strange noises coming from the air vents, and the occasional screeching when the filters need to be cleaned. My parents wanted to replace the entire heating and cooling system one year, but were unable to afford the repairs. In order to keep the value of the house if we wanted to sell, we would need to have the HVAC unit replaced. There is no way the house would sell with all the strange sounds and smells that came from the air vents. Once I went away for college, my parents decided to replace the heating and cooling system in the old 1930’s home. After several inspections from an HVAC company, they were informed that this project would require much more than they originally bargained for. They would have to replace the roof along with the HVAC unit! They went ahead with the project and sold the house shortly after.
