For years now, I’ve been saying that I would like a cat, but I refuse to go out and adopt one myself. I know better than to bring a cat into my home on purpose. The moment that I seek out a spare cat to make my own pet, there’s no doubt in my mind that another one will show up at my doorstep. This happens constantly with cats in my life, and I have no reason to believe that my feline luck would have changed. The problem with having two cats is, they don’t always get along. That’s why I’m more than happy to sit back and wait patiently for a needy cat to come into my life. It’s a good thing that I had this mentality, because that’s exactly what happened last week when the outdoor climate began to change. As cool air blew through our region, I put off using the central forced air furnace for as long as I could. It seemed like I could get by with a few small space heaters for the time being, and my central HVAC system could chill out. After a few weeks of uneven hot and cold temperatures in my house with the alternative heating sources at work, I decided to power up the central heating system for the first time. It felt wonderful. Immediately, my home was filled with luxurious warm air. It felt better than ever before. Well, I must not have been the only one who felt this way. As I walked out to leave for work the other morning, a cat ran right under my feet and into the house. It’s been a week and he refuses to leave. In fact, I can’t even get him off the warm air vents.
